The Old Hatfield Pickle Co

I have known the guys who formed the Old Hatfield Pickle Co for several years as they are local to me.

We share the odd pint of beer most weeks in a pub called the Horse and Groom in Old Hatfield. Good quality traditional ales alongside generous helpings of excellent pub grub at lunchtime if you are in the area!

Anyway, as you can imagine, we discuss food, business, the world, the man and his dog as we chaps do!

The discussions have resulted in a sort of marriage between the Old Hatfield Pickle Co and Limepickle.com. The outcome is below and it promises to be an exiting future for both parties!

The Old Hatfield Pickle Co.

A small artisan company, the Old Hatfield Pickle Co now consists of three people who produce exceptional pickle, mustard, chutney, relish, and sauces. There is a post on the Limepickle.com site about their Lemon and Lime pickles.

The company has been in business for some time now and has sold all of its produce via recommendation. They first started by making condiments for friends and family. The word has spread and now its a full time occupation.

About the Old Hatfield Pickle Co’s products.

Old Hatfield Pickle Co Mustard label. The company currently makes 6 different mustards, several chutneys, and both lime and lemon pickles.

The range also includes a stunning Sweet Pepper and Chilli sauce (Love it!) and one of the best relishes for sausages and burgers I’ve tasted.

The men at the Old Hatfield Pickle Co are always experimenting with new mixtures of flavours and textures so I am sure the range will grow. It’s also something I will have a hand in and am looking forward to it.

The ingredients used by the Old Hatfield Pickle Co.

Where possible, the products in the Old Hatfield Pickle Co’s range of condiments are made out of fresh locally grown fruit and vegetables.

Sadly that can’t always the case because of the UK’s climate even though we are having a pretty good summer for a change!

One example being the lemons and limes in the pickles which have to be imported.

Fruit and vegetables are always collected on the day they are going to be used regardless of where they are bought from. None are kept in stock so you can’t really get much fresher than that!

Herbs are bought locally when available and some of the spices are supplied by an Old Hatfield Pickle Co friendly importer (He likes their Lime Pickle) rather than purchased from wholesalers.

Production methods used by the Old Hatfield Pickle Co

All of the condiments made by the Old Hatfield Pickle Co are produced in small batches and are traditionally made by hand.

The only machinery used are electric spice grinders and hand blenders for the sauces. So you can imagine that the process of making all of the condiments is pretty labour intensive.

The mustards and both the Lime and Lemon pickles are allowed sufficient time to mature and develop their full taste. This can be up to 6 weeks for the pickles. The other condiments are normally sold within a week of being made.

The future of the Old Hatfield Pickle Co.

The company wants to establish a reputation for producing traditional condiments of the highest quality with exiting new twists in taste across a broader audience. Currently the Old Hatfield Pickle Co has established that reputation locally.

To achieve that and get itself better known, the company has started trading at Covent Garden Market in London and plans to attend county shows, fine food fairs and festivals in the future.

We are currently building an on-line shop on the limepickle.com website which will sell the Old Hatfield Pickle Co’s products. The shop will be launched within the next two weeks.

A website for the company is also under construction. You can see the progress being made on the Old Hatfield Pickle Co website here.

Lastly, look out for articles, recipes for condiments and other contributions on the Limepickle.com website that will written by the folks who do the pickling at the Old Hatfield Pickle Co.
